Meet Our Team
Jody was born and raised in Bennettsville SC. He has (1) an amazing wife of 32 years, Michelle (a science teacher at Chapin High); (2) an incredible son, Andrew, a graduate of Clemson University and a worship pastor at Midtown Fellowship Church; (3) a precious daughter-in-law, Morgan, a graduate of USC and a registered nurse at Palmetto Health Richland; (4) an awesome granddaughter, Lucy Jane! and (5) an ugly golf swing. Graduating from St Andrews Presbyterian College in 1982 and Duke Divinity School in 1994, Jody is a former Graduate Assistant Football Coach at Clemson and is a longtime "Atlanta Brave Wanna-Be" who longs to love Jesus more. Jody has served as Lead Minister of CUMC since June of 2001.
Congregational Care Minister
Paul has been a member of CUMC since 1986. He joined our staff in 2004 in the ministry area of congregational care. Paul says that he is bodaciously blessed to serve Jesus Christ at CUMC where he can be a “Love Pastor” along with so many other servant ministers of Christ. He and his wife Sharon of 50 years are blessed to be the parents of four grown boys all of whom live out of state along with their grandchildren. Paul, aka Mr. Bodacious, and his wife Sharon have lived in Chapin since 1981.
Director of Operations
Caroline began attending CUMC in 1990. She grew up in the church participating in the Youth ministry. A USC graduate, Caroline left the corporate world in 2007 to join the CUMC staff as Administrative Assistant. This career change has allowed her to live out her prayers of placing God first, then her husband Ryan and her child, Aiden Wesley; something her family believes is the strength and backbone of their lives. has come full circle to end up where she believes she truly belongs.
Social Media Communications
Courtney has spent most of her life in South Carolina, growing up in the Irmo area. After receiving a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Clemson University, she went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Adam in 2008. After joining Chapin UMC in 2012 they welcomed two daughters Addy Lane & Sadie to their family. Courtney was a wedding photographer for just under 10 years before deciding to step away from her business to spend more time with her family. Courtney is excited getting to serve using her love for photography as well as helping us communicate via social media!
Contemporary Worship Minister
John joined the staff at CUMC in July of 2017. He is married to Sarah and they have three great kids. A graduate of North Greenville University, he most recently was a worship pastor at a church plant outside of Greenville, SC. John is passionate about discipleship and raising up the next generation of worship leaders who lead people and not just songs. Simply stated John wants to help people love God better.
Alice began attending CUMC in 1993 and joined in 1996. She served as treasurer since 1997, and transitioned into her new role in 2020. Alice is the widow of Bill Furman and helped raise her two grandsons, William and Riley. She enjoys being outside and time with her sweet great grand-daughter, Emma Grace. CUMC is her "Home Away From Home!"
Marcy is a native of North Carolina, where she graduated from Appalachian State University. Marcy pursued a theatre career, then a customer service career which led her to Cincinnati, Ohio. But in 2012 she was drawn to leave that corporate world and began working on a Masters in Pastoral Leadership at Cincinnati Christian University. God called her to use her gifts by working full time in ministry. She has a passion for Discipleship and Pastoral Care, and loves to share her testimony. Marcy is excited to be a part of Chapin, where she feels this has been a “coming home” to the south! She has two daughters, Alicia who attends college in Cincinnati, and Aimee who resides with her here, staying active in multiple sports.
Prayer Ministry Coordinator
Shirley is a wife (married to Bill for 52 years), mother of 2 girls and grandmother of 7. She loves her Lord and is honored to serve Him as Coordinator of Prayer Ministries at CUMC. She loves to cook, bake, garden and read good books. Five things that she would not ever want to do without are: the Gospels of Jesus Christ, her small group Bible studies, Girlfriends in God Prayer Group, her outdoor prayer room and her flower garden.
Natalie and her husband, Ben have been members of Chapin UMC since 2003. They married in 1992 and have three amazing daughters. Natalie began her career as a Special Education teacher and then became an educational consultant and teacher trainer. She has co-authored and published several books in the education field. Having grown up the daughter of a minister, Natalie has been involved in ministry her entire life. Prior to becoming the CUMC Children’s Minister, she served as a preschool Sunday School teacher at CUMC for over 12 years and was a regular volunteer in Children’s Ministry programs and events. Natalie desires that each child will come to know the amazing love and grace of Jesus Christ. She feels it is a privilege to partner with parents as they seek to teach, lead and grow their children’s relationship with Christ.
Children's Ministry Assistant
Andrea has lived in Chapin, SC for 18 years. She and her husband Michael have been members of CUMC since 2005. They married in 1997 and have two daughters that love helping in the nursery. Andrea has a Masters degree in social work from USC. She volunteered in children's ministry for many years and believes in providing tender love and care to the smallest of our congregation. It is her desire to lay a good foundation in the lives of children to know God and His church. She wants each child to know they are precious in His sight.
Curt has been a Chapin native since the age of six. He now resides here with his wife Haylee and his two daughters, Payton and Campbell. He and his family feel blessed to be members of ChapinUMC and considers it a tremendous honor to work alongside the staff here. Curt truly believes this is where God has led him to be, and is excited about the opportunity to serve in this ministry however the Lord sees fit.
As the youth minister Hugo has the privilege of leading our students from 7th-12th grade. Hugo is responsible for any youth trips, youth small group and our regular Fusion gathering. Hugo has been a part of CUMC since the end of 2016. Although he was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hugo spent most of his childhood in Charlotte, NC. Hugo graduated from Liberty University with his Bachelors degree in 2013 and has been in Student Ministry ever since. Hugo and his high school sweetheart Emily have been married since 2009, and they have 3 amazing children. Hugo's main hobby is being a daddy, which means he gets to spend a lot of time at the park, the zoo, and reenacting scenes from various kids movies with his children.
Kay and her husband, Steve, joined CUMC in 2013. They have a son, two daughters and four beautiful granddaughters. She joined the staff in 2016 and enjoys serving the Lord and her church with the gifts the Lord has graciously given her.
Director of Media and Production
With deep family roots in the Chapin community, Mark graduated from Chapin High School and went on to the University of South Carolina to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism and Mass Communications. After USC, Mark began his career at South Carolina ETV as a broadcast engineer. Soon afterwards, Mark met his wife Andrea. They have been married for 23 years with three awesome children, Chas, Gabe and Lauren. In 2014, Mark left SCETV to join the University of South Carolina to help launch the SEC Network in partnership with ESPN. After 30 years of state service in mass communications, Mark is now working with the CUMC team to spread God’s word both here and afar.
Traditional Music Minister
Lennie has lived most of her adult life in South Carolina, but lived in North Carolina, Kentucky, and Florida growing up. She is married to Jack Tucker, and together they have one daughter, two sons, and six grandchildren.
She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Limestone College; a Masters of Music degree from Converse College; a Masters plus thirty hours in Music and Education from Converse College and USC, and is a Nationally Board Certified Middle School Generalist.
From a young age of 12, Lennie has been involved in church music playing the piano, organ, and directing children’s choirs. In 1971, she accepted her first position as full time minister of music and youth. Along with a church music position, Lennie taught music in public schools in South Carolina and retired from teaching in 2016. From that time to the present, Lennie has been actively involved in the music ministry of several churches throughout South Carolina. She has served in the CUMC music ministry in various capacities since 2006. She feels very blessed to be able to lead people to know and serve the Lord through music. “Without Him, I could do nothing.”
Emily and her husband, Steve have been active members of CUMC since 1998. They've been married for 25 years and have four kids who also serve in ministry here. Emily loves students and is known to often have a houseful of them.
